I WAS just listening to the news, and they were talking about the heat wave and how hard it is for people who do not have air conditioners and how they need help in buying the air conditioners. I think the people of Cape Girardeau ought to consider the school children in August when it is very, very hot and the humidity is very high. They too would like to have air conditioning and be able to learn in comfort. It is very difficult to teach when the children are very, very hot...

Things that are free

I WANTED to express my disappointment in the article regarding recreational opportunities for kids who are staying home during the summer. I was really hoping it would have some expensive or free ideas, and I didn't see anything like that. Most of us don't have unlimited incomes to spend on our kids, With the things in the article and with two or three kids, you're spending $20 easily a day to entertain them. One thing that I've done is organize water balloon fights. You can buy a pack of 100 balloons for $1. My children and I have gone on bike rides. All of these things are free.

TBY is best ever

I'M CALLING about a week late, but the TBY that came about seven days ago was one of the best issues I've read in a long time. I really liked the article about the couple who knew of each other in high school and then got married later in life after their other spouses had died. It was very positive and uplifting. I look forward to TBY every month because it's a real positive publication. The writing is just really great.

Trash in yards

I HAVE recently moved to Cape Girardeau, and have never before seen such trash in yards and on sidewalks. If this had happened in the town and state I came from, the health department would have fined the persons responsible for it. There are a few property owners on South Spanish who take pride in their backyards. The rest of the owners don't care how their yards look.
