Incompetent drivers

I'VE LIVED in towns and cities all over this country and all over the world, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Cape Girardeau has to have some of the worst automobile drivers on the face of this planet. I've seen flagrant and blatantly unsafe acts since I started living here. Some of these people need to take a little more and do a little more thinking before someone gets hurt or killed. One last thing I'd like to point out to the drivers in this town: Next time you get in your car, take a look at the long-handled object on the lefthand side of the steering column. It's called a turn signal, and it's not just there for decoration.

Creeping casinos

ALL OF the people so eager to get riverboat gambling in Cape, be sure to read the article in the July 15 Southeast Missourian about the Argosy Gaming Co. riverboat in Kansas City, how it was to cruise and now has found all kinds of reasons it can't and if approved to be dockside is already talking of building a $27 million casino. See how when gambling takes hold of your town, it eats right into it like a cancer? I pray we never see it ruin out town.

Pay for mural space

SEEMS LIKE Cape Girardeau's always in need of money. They're going to miss a fine chance to get some. About this floodwall deal where they're going to paint pictures of people on it. I think they ought to charge for that service. If people want their picture on there bad enough, let them pay for it.

No-cruise casinos

VOTERS approved riverboat gambling, meaning riverboats that cruise the river could have gambling. It appears that the Missouri Gaming Commission has decided that boats that never cruise can gamble. This is nothing more than Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Why doesn't the governor or someone in control take charge? This is just another example of why we need Republicans running the state and country.

Boiled is better

WE BELIEVE we will continue to boil our water. We think it tastes ever so much better than it did before.

Take precautions

WE ALL know about the heat index. It's uncomfortable for animals and can rot garbage faster than anything. That's why I need to remind you folks, whether fat or skinny, before leaving your house, please don't forget the deodorant.

Justice served

I DON'T often have a comment to make about anything in the newspaper, but this time I do, and it's about the Donna Thomas case. I say justice has finally been served.
