Weed and Seed is stunt

I THINK this Operation Weed and Weed in Sikeston is a shameless political stunt by the U.S. attorney. The primary law enforcement in any community is local law enforcement.

Speeding motorist

ON JULY 19th we were in a van behind a woman speeding in a car. We got her license number. She never touched her brakes as she went right through the new traffic lights at I-55 and Highway 61 that cost thousands of dollars to put up. She was speeding all the way through Jackson, and there wasn't a patrol car in sight. This is typical of what kind of driving you see in this part of the country. There wasn't any cross traffic. Had there been she would have creamed. Maybe I will make a citizens arrest next time, because this is just ridiculous.

In support of Royko

I'D LIKE to reply to the person who called in about Mike Royko and said he is a dirty old man. I have read Mike Royko all my life. I have found him to be an excellent satirist and humorist, and I think maybe his comments ought to be taken with a bit of salt and a little tongue in cheek. He expresses opinions that I agree with many times. But I still think he is an excellent columnist, and his opinions often come very close to home. We can't silence opinions, and I think the Missourian does a good job of giving us a broad spectrum of opinions. Keep up the good work, and don't get rid of Mike Royko.

I FOR one would stand up for Mike Royko. I think you have to have a sense of humor yourself to catch on to his style, but he is righteous to me.

THIS IS in response to the caller who objects to Royko's column. Please, under no circumstances delete his column from your paper. You would totally emasculate the paper.

Clean up own mess

THIS IS to the person who is requesting, suggesting, demanding, whatever, that the city and the churches get involved in cleaning up the city. Baloney. Horse hockey. Whatever happened to independence? Whatever happened to pride? Whatever happened to people's desire to show the good side to the world? Why does anybody have to come in and clean up somebody else's garbage? Why can't they do it on their own?
