The big joke A BIG joke was in Speak Out. "Democrat, Republican, Bull Moose. Speak Out loves them all. Keep calling." If anyone calls in against the Republicans, it won't be published, and you won't publish this either. I've called many times, and you won't publish what I put in. All the editorials, even those by the Missourian staff, rip the Democrats. I really think the Republicans are scared...

REPLY: Looks like the joke is on you.

No flood buyout

I URGE the city council not to use reserve funds or cut other budget funds for a flood buyout. It would be ridiculous for everyone to bear this expense. Residents purchasing property in these areas knew the potential for flooding. The city doesn't need to assume this expense or take on an additional expense of maintaining the scattered lots.

Apartment recycling

I DON'T understand why we who live in apartments cannot have our recyclables picked up from in front of the building. I have been collecting them in our building but find that transporting them in my car gets the inside of my car dirty. The recyclables truck goes right past our building, but the city refuses to pick them up at commercial establishments. So a lot of recyclables are lost.

Highway mowing

I'VE JUST read where someone wants weeds cut by the intersection of Highway 61 and I-55. I also agree with that, but I also would like to know why the highway department cannot cut the right of way. The weeds are so tall and the highway from Scott County to Perry County, I think, is the worst section of the highway as to litter, weeds not being mowed, etc.

Missing bobbin found

THIS IS a message to the lady who bought the sewing machine at a garage sale on Albert Rasche drive on July 22. We found the bobbin you were interested in. If you will call back the same number you called the other day, I'm sure my Mom would be happy to give that to you. Sorry about the problem. Give her a call, and she will get that for you.

Betting against the boat

I'VE BEEN trying to get a bet from someone that Cape Girardeau would never get a gambling boat. After all the fuss and feathers and all the talk I don't think we will ever get a boat.

Football in the summer

FOOTBALL IS supposed to be a fall sport. So why start practice in the middle of summer? If high school starts football practice, then schools do not need air conditioning at all.

Buyout makes sense

A BUYOUT of flood prone houses or homes in Cape is really a very, very good bargain for the city. The city council will approve a buyout if they have any sense at all.
