Who was involved?
I THINK you are missing a valid point in the Meadow Heights School situation. You must remember the attendance and enrollment records are kept by the elementary principal and the high school principal, and the complete records are then turned in to the superintendent's office. It would be impossible for the records to be falsified without the cooperation of more than one person.
Remembering history
THESE PEOPLE who find fault with the dropping of the atomic bomb have a short memory. Have they forgotten the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, the Bataan death march, the hundreds of thousands of Phillipinos killed by bayonets and beheaded? The Japanese soldiers threw little kids up in the air and caught them on their bayonets then took the women as harlots for the men in service. They estimate 600,000 of our servicemen were saved by dropping the bomb. I was on Saipan 14 months and glad they dropped it, both of them, so I could come home safe.
Info on attorney general
I WOULD like to know if Janet Reno, our attorney general, is married and if she has any children.
REPLY: The answer to both questions is no.
No common sense
I DON'T see any common sense among any of our representatives or senators in this entire country. All I see is political and financial considerations. We're in sad shape.
Disappointed with GOP
I'M VERY disturbed about the Republican Party's Contract With America. They continually try to pass legislation that deeply hurts the economic chances for anyone in this country earning less than $200,000 per year. I am a poor college student who continually fights to keep my head above water on financial matters. Every year I have to pay at least a month's salary in taxes. The Republicans want to give a tax break to people who make over $100,000 a year. How about a tax break for those of us just trying to make ends meet? I agree that many of the government programs need an overhaul, but why does Washington think it's OK to screw the poor, the old and the sick?
Good people there
I WANT to thank the Missourian for the wonderful people you have in employed. I missed my paper. I called circulation, and the young lady who answered the telephone was most gracious in her remarks and her work. I must thank you for her. She in turn contacted the paper man, and I got my paper back. The young lady who was substituting that day was so nice, so friendly and so courteous. You've got a great crew.
REPLY: Thanks for the nice compliment. Everyone involved will be pleased to hear such kind words.
