CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Funeral mass for John Andrew Schlitt, 3130 Themis, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent's Church. The Revs. Art Basler and Harry Schlitt will officiate, with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Schlitt, 59 years old, died Sunday, March 3, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born June 7, 1931, in Cape, son of William N. and Theckla Dirnberger Schlitt. He and the former Betty Jean Lee were married Feb. 3, 1951, in Cape.

Schlitt worked with his father at General Garage, and then owned the business from July 1954 until September 1980, retiring because of ill health.

He was a member of St. Vincent's Church, Elks, Eagles and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include five sons, Ron Schlitt of Germantown, Tenn., Roger Schlitt of Cape, Rick Schlitt of Coral Springs, Fla., Randy Schlitt of Marietta, Ga., John Schlitt II of Chalfont, Pa.; a daughter, Renda Clark of Houston, Tex.; two brothers, Charles Schlitt of Cape, Rev. Harry Schlitt of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, O'Della Darling of Stratham, N.H., and six grandchildren.
