Former Cape Girardeau resident Joseph H. Wells, 71, of Decatur, Ill., died Friday, May 31, 1991, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Wells was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Walter C. and Belle McDonald Wells. Both preceded him in death.

On April 10, 1948, Wells married Clare Marce Miller in Cape Girardeau. She survives.

Wells had worked as a sales engineer for Union Ironworks and was the retired owner of Wells System, both in Decatur. He served in World War II as an Air Force captain and bomber pilot.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Decatur.

Surviving are sons Joseph D. Wells of Newington, Conn., and Edward S. Wells of St. Louis; daughters Mary Wells-Danielson of Long Beach, Calif., and Rebecca Wells-Peacock of Aurora, Colo.; brothers Walter S. Wells of Springfield Ill., and Patrick Wells of Coldwater, Kan.; and sisters Elizabeth Crowley of Coldwater, Kan. and Lucy O'Neill of St. Louis.

One daughter preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Burial will follow.
