THE REV. JOHN OVERKAMP

PERRYVILLE - The Rev. John Overkamp, 54, of Perryville, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1991, at St. Mary's of the Barrens Seminary, where he resided following his retirement as a Catholic priest.

Overkamp was born May 26, 1937, at St. Charles, son of Frances Griben Overkamp and the late John Overkamp.

On May 24, 1964, he was ordained as a priest in the Vincentian Order at St. Mary's of the Barrens Seminary.

Overkamp served as pastor at several parishes in Missouri, including Perryville and Brewer, and at churches in California, Colorado, and Illinois. He studied at the Vatican in Rome from 1967-1970.

Overkamp was a former member of the Missouri National Guard.

Surviving, besides his mother of Papillion, Neb., is one brother, Robert J. Overkamp, also of Papillion.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today at the seminary in Perryville.

Wake services will be held at 7:30 tonight at the seminary.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the seminary, with the Rev. John Gagnepain officiating. Burial will be in the Vincentian Community Cemetery in Perryville.
