JACKSON -- A Jackson resident spent the spring college semester working as an intern in Eighth District Congressman Bill Emerson's Washington D.C. office.

Jamie Kimbel, an engineering major at the University of Missouri-Rolla, learned more about the political and legislative processes at the federal level.

He is the son of JoEllen and Tommy Kimbel of Jackson and will be a junior in the fall.

Emerson said: "These interns can learn a great deal about Washington D.C., and the working of our federal government. Instead of having only the benefit of listening to a lecture on how a bill becomes a law, these young people can see firsthand the legislative process in action.

The Eighth District intern program is designed so that the participating individuals, usually college students, gain valuable knowledge of the process by which laws are passed, the duties of the federally elected officials and the workings of a Congressional staff.
