She is one of 775 graduating high-school seniors to be honored as a recipient of one of the scholarships, which range from $500 to $2,000.

AAL's 1991 scholarship recipients were chosen from more than 4,800 applicants by qualified individuals from the field of education. Selection was based on academic records, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, church and community involvement and the student's own statements.
