Contemporary Christian artist Brian Becker will perform in Cape Girardeau Sept. 5 at Academic Auditorium on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

Becker, a native of Missouri, performs nationwide and in Canada and has just released his third album, "No Longer the Wayward Son."

The first single from that album, "Children of the Image," was on the Adult Contemporary Chart for 11 weeks, peaking at number seven in June. It also reached number three on the Pop Christian Chart.

Becker, who said he often writes songs based on personal experiences, focuses on expanding his audience.

"The most important thing is just to know God," he said. "I want to be part of helping not only youth, but also adults in reaching that goal."

Becker is an accomplished technician with two degrees from the University of Missouri in electrical engineering and computer engineering.

He began touring in 1981, operating out of his hometown of Williamsville, Mo. In 1986, he began traveling full time, performing over 80 concerts a year. He also played keyboards. His wife, Toni, sings backup and also plays keyboards. His band also includes a guitar player.

Becker uses synthesizers and computers to create a full band sound and light show.

Becker's first album, released in 1986, was titled "Getting In Shape." But his second release in 1990, "Daring 2 B Different," was his first on a major record label.

Tickets for Becker's 7:30 p.m. performance are $3 in advance and $4 at the door. They are available at the Baptist Student Union on campus, the Gospeland Book Store at West Park Mall and Living Waters Book Store in Kingshighway.
