POPLAR BLUFF - State Rep. Steven R. Carroll, of Hannibal, will be the featured speaker Saturday at the annual Truman Day Rally in Poplar Bluff.

The event will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner at 7:15 at the Elks Lodge on Highway 67 North. The Butler County Democratic Central Committee is sponsoring the rally.

Carroll is serving his fourth term in the Missouri House and serves on several major committees, including the budget panel. He is presently chairman of the Economic Development and Professional Registration Committee.

Carroll grew up on a farm, is a part owner of Carroll Seed Farms of Monroe City, and is an attorney.

He is a graduate of Monroe City High School, the University of Missouri Columbia with degrees in agriculture and law, and he attended the JFK School of Government at Harvard.

Carroll plans to seek the Democratic nomination for secretary of state next year.

Lt. Gov. Mel Carnahan, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor in 1992, also plans to attend the rally.

Other candidates for statewide office on the Democratic ticket have been invited. Democratic legislators and county officials from around the Bootheel will also be attending.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.
