The Southeast Missourian asked people about their concern for possible renewed hostilities between Iraq and the United States.

Gary Beggs: "I would be very surprised if we would go back to a war situation over there. It's more of a policing action now to get them to admit that they have more war machinery. I think Saddam has to `fess up, or he'll be in deeper trouble than he is now."

Tim Liley: "I think Saddam will back down and there won't be any renewed hostilities. I think President Bush is handling the situation well. If he sends troops back in there, then I think he would shoot down his chances for re-election. I think Saddam will comply with the U.N."

Alice Niswonger: "I'm a little concerned, but I'm not too worried about it yet. I would hate to think that we have to go back over there, but if we have to, we have to. I think we just have to get a few details ironed out over there."

Martin Grossman: "I would hate to see any more lives lost on either side. I would hope that Saddam would allow the U.N. to do what they need to do over there, but he is not a rational man. He knows what we can do, so maybe he has seen the light."

Anita Meinz: "I feel that President Bush is going in the right direction. We've given Saddam warnings before, and we've shown him what we can do. I don't think our troops would have come back if they didn't think it was settled. We would have stayed over there if necessary."

Brad Davis: "I don't feel that the American people are ready to shell out the money that is involved in us being a part of another war. We have entirely too many problems at home. I think we should give Saddam enough rope to hang himself."
