Seven students at Cape Girardeau Central High School have been named 1992 National Merit Semifinalists. Seven students at Cape Girardeau Central High School have been named 1992 National Merit Semifinalists.

Earning this award are Mala Ahuja, Crystal Atkins, Gwenda Bennett, Brian Campbell, Kathryn Ford, Haresh Kamath and Laroy Roper.

More than 1 million students entered the National Merit competition by taking the 1990 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholastic Qualifying Test as high school juniors.

Approximately 15,000 semifinalists were chosen based on their test performance.

As semifinalists these students must continue to meet high academic standards, submit SAT scores and submit a detailed scholarship application.

About 14,000 semifinalists reached the finalist level in the 1991 competition.

All merit scholarship winners will be chosen from the group of semifinalists. Scholarships range from $250 to $2,000 and will be announced in the spring.
