"There is a real cost to all of us, whether it be now or later, if household waste is not managed wisely," said Missouri University Extension Specialist Susan Mills. "That means real dollars in terms of taxes and cost of services. We've designed this workshop to present unbiased information so local citizens can explore options for handling the new and more stringent regulations."

Mills said a recent study revealed that our garbage cans contain 42 percent paper, 20 percent yard waste, 9.4 percent glass, 9.2 percent plastic, 9 percent metal, but only 10.4 percent non-recyclable material.

This means a lot of waste now going to landfills, which are filling to capacity, could be recycled.
