The Southeast Missourian asked students at St. Vincent de Paul Grade School why they give to the Toybox program. A team of Jaycee Santas will deliver gifts to needy children Dec. 19.
Todd Brase: "If you put yourself in their place, you would want toys for Christmas too. That's why I give to Toybox. A lot of people in that position have to use their money for food, and not much is left to buy gifts for Christmas."
Melissa Maurer: "I know that I like to get presents on Christmas. I like to give to Toybox so other kids can have presents too. My family has given to Toybox even before I was born. It's good for people who are more fortunate to share with others less fortunate at Christmas."
Matthew Fisher: "I like to participate in Toybox because there are people less fortunate who need it. They enjoy the same things that we do, so they should be able to have some of the things that we enjoy. We usually get something for a boy and a girl."
Ben Edwards: "Toybox is a good program to help boys and girls who are less fortunate. It helps people who don't have the money to get toys for their kids. It is nice to be able to share with others. I have been helping as long as I can remember."
Laura Hoffman: "I think it is good that people care about others who are less fortunate so they can have toys on Christmas. I like helping with Toybox because it makes me feel good that I can do something for someone else."
Katie Warren: "Toybox is great because it helps me to help other kids who don't have the toys to play with. I've looked around, and I'm still thinking about what I want to get for Toybox this year. I try to pick out something that would I like and hope they would like it too."
