Rosemary B. Crisp, a Marion, Ill., resident and member of the Board of Governors for the National League for Nursing's (NLN) Community Health Accreditation Program, recently was inducted as an honorary member in Sigma Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Crisp was inducted during the House of Delegates' session of the 31st biennial convention of Sigma Theta Tau International Nov. 14 in Tampa, Fla. She was nominated for the honor by the Lambda Theta chapter, a local Sigma Theta Tau chapter of students, faculty and community leaders based at Southeast Missouri State University.

"The executive board and members of the Lambda Theta chapter appreciate Mrs. Crisp's contributions to nursing scholarship," said Linda K. Heitman, Lambda Theta chapter president. "We are pleased to have been able to facilitate this special tribute to her."

Heitman served as Crisp's escort, presenting her to the governing council at the induction ceremony.

Sigma Theta Tau International honorary memberships are awarded to people ineligible for standard membership and who have earned national and international recognition in nursing or in a field contributing to nursing.

Sigma Theta Tau, among the largest and most prestigious nursing organizations in the world, was founded in 1922 and became an international organization in 1985. Currently, the 301 active chapters of Sigma Theta Tau International have more than 150,000 members affiliated with 326 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Korea and Taiwan. Chapters exist at colleges and universities with accredited programs granting baccalaureate and higher degrees in nursing.

"Mrs. Crisp's commitment and contributions to the nursing profession are exemplary," said Kala M. Stroup, Southeast Missouri State University president. "We at Southeast are very proud of her far-reaching accomplishments and applaud her induction into this select society."

Southeast's hall of nursing is named in honor of Crisp as the Rosemary Berkel Crisp Hall of Nursing. She and her husband, Harry Crisp II, donated a major gift in 1988 to create nursing offices and laboratories in the building.

In addition, Rosemary Crisp heads up the President's Council a component of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation and chairs the Community Advisory Board to the nursing department's home health programs.

She also is an honorary inductee to the university's Nursing Honor Society and is a past chairperson of the Copper Dome Society.
