CHAFFEE - At least one candidate will run for the Chaffee City Council seat being yielded by Ward 3 Councilman Marcus Lauck in the April city election.

Chaffee City Clerk Diane Eftink said Danny Finley, of 118 Gray, had filed for the seat Monday. The seat carries a two-year term.

Lauck, who is retired, announced last week he would not file for re-election in the April 2 election. In addition to his current two-year term, Lauck served four other years on the board.

All of the city's other councilmen whose two-year seats are up for election have re-filed. They are Bill Cannon of Ward 1, Ed Gauthier of Ward 2, and Tom Cunningham of Ward 4.

Mayor Ron Moyers has also filed for re-election. Challenging Moyers for his seat, which carries a term of four years, are ex-Chaffee Mayor Robert Capshaw and Bill Goad, of 324 West Parker.

No other candidates had filed for those city seats as of late Tuesday afternoon, according to Eftink.

However, another Chaffee City Council member was reported to be running for a spot on the Scott County R-2 Board of Education in the April election.

Ward 1 Councilman Jerry Wolsey, of 107 West Clarman Drive, filed last week for election to the three-year unexpired term of former board member James Dooley, said district Superintendent John Payne Monday. Dooley died in October in a farming accident with one year remaining on his term.

Also running for a spot on the board is Sharon Crowden, who lives in the community of Rockview, said Payne. Crowden, Payne said, had filed last week for one the board's two three-year terms that are up for election.

The three-year seats up for election are those held by board President Larry Meyr and board member Dale Tierney. Only Meyr has so far filed for re-election.

The candidate filing periods for the April election close for the city council on Jan. 29 and on Jan. 28 for the school board.
