Pvt. Hampton is the son of Jerry and Beth Hampton of Cape Girardeau, and graduated from Cape Central High School in 1989.

He and his wife, the former Christina Price of Cape Girardeau, have a 1-year-old daughter, Alyssa and are expecting their second child in mid-March.

He joined the Army in 1989, and completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. He is trained in electronics and generator repair.

He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, before being deployed to Saudi Arabia. "He finds the county over there interesting and he's looking forward to doing what he was trained to do," said his mother. "He has said in his letters to tell everyone hello and that he has faith and confidence in the American forces."
