CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts is taking applications for entries in its annual juried art and photography exhibitions.

"Photo '91" will be held in May, but applications for exhibits are due by March 1. "Art Experience '91," a juried fine-arts exhibition, will be held in June. Deadline for entries is April 12.

Both competitions are open to all artists 18 years and older. An opening reception and awards presentation will be held for each exhibit. Cash awards will be given.

Entries for the photography exhibit are to be original work in any photogenic process. Juror and judge will be Joe Deal, dean of fine arts at Washington University.

Entries in the art show are to be original work in drawing, mixed media, oil, acrylic, printmaking, pastel or watercolor. Judges will be Evan Lindquist of Arkansas State University at Jonesboro and Pat Reagan Woodard, Museum and Gallery director at Southeast Missouri State University.

To receive an application for either exhibition, send a legal-sized, self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request to Gallery 100 Exhibitions, Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts, P.O. Box 901, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0901.

SEMO Council on the Arts sponsors Gallery 100 Exhibitions to develop professionalism in local and regional artists. Juried competitions display the best of contemporary art, providing enlightenment for both artists and audience.

Gallery 100 is open to the public weekdays from 1-4 p.m. Financial assistance is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
