CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A two-week bridge-sounding project will get under way here Monday.

The Missouri Highway and Transportation Department announced Friday that the bridge sounding crew would start drilling for the proposed bridge over Interstate 55, about 1,700 feet south of Bloomfield Road.

"The soundings will provide information valuable to the design of the proposed bridge," said a department spokesman.

The drilling is expected to be complete in two weeks, according to the spokesman.
