Lance Corporal Sturm graduated from Scott City High School in 1989. he is the son of Lewis J. and Sherri E. Sturm of Scott City.

After entering the Marine Corps after graduation, Sturm completed basic training at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

He served in Oikinawa and in the Philippines before being deployed to Saudi Arabia Jan. 8.

His mother said he enjoys swimming, weight-lifting and playing pool. "He would like to receive letters from friends back home," she said. "And he also enjoys word search puzzles and junk food."
