CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A memorial service of the arts, honoring Otto Dingeldein, will be held April 14 at 2 p.m. at Old St. Vincent's Religious and Cultural Center, 131 S. Main.

The public is invited to attend.

The service will include music, singing and sing-along, dance, drama and poetry readings. Many of the presenters are those whose lives were touched by Dingeldein.

Dingeldein was a well-known silversmith and founder of Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts and community theater in Cape Girardeau. He died March 21.

In 1961, Dingeldein started the Christian Arts Council, which is now the Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts. It is the oldest Arts Council in Missouri.

In 1975, he became the first recipient of the council's art achievement award which was named for him, the Otto F. Dingeldein Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts.

The Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts is celebrating 30 years of promoting the arts by sponsoring performances, exhibitions and other events that encourage community members to participate in and enjoy the arts.
