Duncan was one of several St. Francis nurses nominated for the honor. The purpose of the ward is to recognize St. Francis nurses who excel in their position and who promote the overall image of nursing. The award is named in honor of the late Dougie Manthey, recipient of the hospital's first Nurse of the Year Award in 1988.

Duncan, of Chaffee, started her nursing career at St. Francis in August of 1982, and recently attained "Clinical Nurse III" status in the hospital's nursing career ladder program.

She is a member of the medical center's Nursing Practice Committee, and has served on the hospital-wide patient education task force and skilled nursing facility committee.
