Peter Bergerson, professor of political science at Southeast Missouri State University, has been selected to attend C-SPAN's 1991 seminar for professors in Washington, D.C.

Bergerson is one of 35 college and university instructors selected through a competitive application process. All 2,800 college-professor members of "C-SPAN in the Classroom," the cable television network's free national membership organization for educators, were invited to apply.

The "C-SPAN in the Classroom" seminar will be held June 17 and 18. The agenda includes round-table discussions, professor-led workshops on using C-SPAN in a variety of disciplines, and a reception at the National Press Club.

Seminar participants represent two- and four-year institutions from across the country. The participants' fields of study include political science, journalism, communication and law.

John Sullivan, associate professor of rhetoric and communication studies at the University of Virginia, will serve as moderator. Three professors, who previously have attended professor seminars, will assist Sullivan in presenting workshops and panel discussions.

The seminar will focus on issues relating to educational uses of C-SPAN's public affairs programs.

The 1991 seminar is C-SPAN's ninth such conference. Since the first seminar in January 1987, more than 250 professors have visited Washington to participate in the event.

C-SPAN, a non-profit public affairs cable television network, is available in 53 million households nationwide. C-SPAN is funded by the nation's cable television companies.
