WAPPAPELLO -- The Missouri Conservation Commission has forwarded a petition from a Southeast Missouri group to the state regulations committee that advises the Commission on hunting policies.

A Ripley County group appeared before the commission last week to request that deer hunters be permitted to use dogs. The group said deer-hunting dogs are a necessity in rugged areas of southern Missouri.

Supporters said registration fees for the dogs would be a new source of revenue for the commission. Such dogs currently are legal in Arkansas, Mississippi and South Carolina, they said.
