SCOTT-MISSISSIPPI: KELLY, SCOTT CITY GIRLS VICTORIOUS IN TOURNEY

BENTON -- Favorites Scott City and Kelly posted victories Tuesday night as the Scott-Mississippi Conference girls basketball tournament got under way here.

Tuesday's action was played at Kelly High School, but the remainder of the tournament will be held at Oran.

Second-seeded Kelly simply destroyed Delta, the seventh and final seed, 111-4. The Lady Bobcats were down to just five players for a variety of reasons.

"There really wasn't anything we could do about the score," said Kelly coach Clay Vangilder, whose club was ahead 59-2 at halftime and 93-2 after three quarters.

Kelly is now 10-2 after winning its eighth straight game.

Third-seeded Scott City had a tough time before knocking off No. 6 Chaffee 53-39. The Lady Rams led by just four points entering the final period.

Scott City, now 11-2, got 20 points from Julie Gohn and 15 from Stephanie Grimes. Mistee Hargrove and Kelly Lynn each scored 12 points for 2-7 Chaffee.

One varsity game will be played tonight as Oran meets East Prairie at 7 p.m.

In junior varsity action Tuesday, seventh-seeded Scott City upset No. 7 East Prairie 42-41.
