CAPE TRASH-PICKUP changes scheduled to become effective Oct. 1 should be canceled and a more organized and practical system implemented to meet the federal government regulations by the year 1998. The recent city notice was ill-conceived and poorly presented. Even if we try to cooperate with these confusing instructions, the solid-waste pickup volume will increase tremendously and the recyclable pickup will be minimal. If the council doesn't reconsider this proposal we surely will see more loose trash on our streets.

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE call in and tell us when to stop feeding the hummingbirds? Thank you.

I WOULD LIKE to congratulate the Jackson 9th-grade football team on their two outstanding wins: 33-0 over Hillsboro and 36-7 over Poplar Bluff. The coaches and the boys deserve a pat on the back. Jackson football's future looks real bright. Thank you.

I HAVE BEEN observing the MTV controversy in Speak Out and I feel everyone has been overlooking a very important issue. Everyone is overlooking the fact that there are more anti-drug, safe-sex, and save-the-environment commercials on MTV than any other network. If anyone feels they can prove me wrong on this issue, I welcome them to challenge me. I will even go as far as to publicly debate anyone over this controversy. Thank you.

I'M CALLING TO say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the dear lady that found my walker that we left standing in the parking lot at Schnucks the other day and turned it in. Thank you so very much.

MY SON AND his friends sure had fun all summer riding a bike our neighbor bought him at a garage sale for $8. Also, I have sure fed a lot of friends and family delicious homemade ice cream our neighbor bought at a garage sale for me for $5. Thanks to my neighbor and four garage sales.

I WANTED TO say to Kelso and Scott City residents that they should think about what enhanced 911 could mean to an elderly person who may have fallen or was in pain or in any accident. Perhaps crawling to the phone and dialing 911 was all that they could manage do. Or, maybe hearing a burglar and knowing that all you had time for was calling 911. The police would know immediately your exact location, even if you had no time to tell them where you were. What if your child quits breathing and then you're doing CPR and can't quit for five minutes to give directions? All of this would be immediately in the computer if you dialed 911. They would know your exact location, and it's only $1.35 a month maximum. That's about $16 a year. Maybe just eat out one less time and let's try and get it through. Thank you.

THE CAPE SENIOR Citizen Center would like to express its appreciation to the Gibson Center for all the volunteer help they have given us during this past year. Without help like this we could not continue our level of service. Thank you.

I WANT MY MTV.

I WOULD LIKE to make a comment about the death penalty. Now, I know there are certain people out there who say they are not for it, but I would like to give you another point of view. Seems like, if someone is on death row and there's an accident or someone waiting for a kidney, some of these foreign countries, when they got a person on death row, what they do is call up the hospitals and call up the people on death row and talk to the warden and find out who's supposed to be put to death. Instead of putting these people to death, why not put them to sleep. While they're sleeping take their heart and then call up around the country and find out who needs a kidney and who needs a liver and who needs other various organs. To me this would wake people up, and it would deter the people committing hard crimes where they get the death sentence. Thank you.

YOU PEOPLE out there with no jobs and expired unemployment checks, who is trying to help you in Washington? Who pushed for the raise in the minimum wage? Was it the administration in power? Ask yourself who works for middle-class people. If you appreciate these people, remember them in the '92 election. Vote for the ones that care for you.

I WOULD LIKE to address this to the handy man who is so worried about having to pay a licensing fee. He is so upset about this because now he too will also have to have insurance and will also have to claim this on his taxes. His concern about having to buy the license itself ought to tell everyone it is a good idea because now he can no longer under-bid reputable businesses. Thank you.

I THINK IT'S about time something is done about the old St. Francis hospital and the Marquette Hotel. The city should tear them both down and send the owners the bill. Thank you.

I AGREE WITH whoever called in about Dear Abby's Monday and Tuesday columns. If people have problems with that they should talk to someone in private, not in the newspaper. I cut that part out so my son would not come home from school and read it. I did not like the cartoon about God's computer either. Where is our respect at anyway? Thank you.

I SURE WISH my neighbors would park their cars on their side of the street instead of on my side in front of my house. We don't park our cars in front of your house, and we would like to be able to use the street in front of our house.
