Bill Atchley grew up in Cape Girardeau, left to pursue a career in higher education that included stints at the helms of Clemson University and University of the Pacific.

He returned to his hometown for a year as president of Southeast Missouri State University in 1995-96. In that brief time, he left a lasting impression on the university and the community.

We join his family, friends and colleagues who mourn his untimely passing at age 68 in South Carolina. He will be missed.
