Take time to be remembered. The Youth Education Literacy and Learning Foundation is preparing a time capsule to be buried on YELL Day Sept. 14. It will be placed near the cornerstone of the Arena Building as part of the SEMO District Fair festivities.

Family photographs, both formal and casual, are being sought to be published in a special YELL section that will be buried in the time capsule.

There's no charge to be included, and all photographs will be returned. Think of the fun and pride these photographs can inspire when the time capsule is reopened in 50 years.

On the eve of the new millennium, people are both examining the past and predicting the future. The YELL sections are stepping up the enthusiasm with predictions from area third graders, historic front pages of the Southeast Missourian and other fun activities for the year 2000.

No doubt many subscribers will tuck away these special YELL editions. But inclusion in the time capsule will help ensure these documents will last 50 years for future generations to enjoy. It is hoped the third graders who participated will return for the opening of the capsule in 2050.

The deadline for photograph submissions is Sunday. Photos can be mailed to: Time Capsule, c/o Southeast Missourian, Box 699, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63701 or dropped off at the main newspaper office at 301 Broadway or satellite offices in Jackson and Scott City.

Now is the time to act for your family photographs to be included in this historic millennium section.
