When high winds overpowered trees Wednesday, the task of cleaning up fell to city and Union Electric crews. By late Wednesday, the cleanup effort had progressed so efficiently that most indications of the windstorm had disappeared.

A mature tree is a lot to move, but the experienced crews used chain saws, heavy equipment and dump trucks.

It is never easy to watch a magnificent oak or hickory or maple tree meet its demise, much less to see the trees in full foliage lying on their sides with their massive roots exposed.

The quick response and productive efforts of the cleanup crews provided a study in teamwork and effective use of human and machinery resources.

Hats off to all the workers who put in the long hours.
