When Dan Tallent was named principal at Central High School in Cape Girardeau at the start of the 1994-95 school year, there were high hopes that he could accomplish some tough tasks, particularly in the area of discipline. By all accounts, Tallent did an exceptional job and, in the process, earned the respect and admiration of students, teachers and many parents.

Now the able administrator has announced he plans to resign at the end of the current school year. He siad that, even though he has no job prospect at this time, he wanted to give the school district ample notice to find a replacement. "I'm big on being treated fairly and treating other people fairly," he said.

No doubt many students, teachers and parents have benefitted from this laudable trait. Tallent will be missed.
