Today has been designated in some quarters as the National Day of Prayer. While not an official national holiday (what would the American Civil Liberties Union say about such a thing?), it seems a worthy observance. A couple of events are planned in the area as part of the holiday, including gatherings at the Cape Girardeau City Hall and the Jackson County Courthouse from 12:20-12:40 p.m., where prayer services are planned...

A couple of events are planned in the area as part of the holiday, including gatherings at the Cape Girardeau City Hall and the Jackson County Courthouse from 12:20-12:40 p.m., where prayer services are planned.

As individuals and as a nation, we shouldn't need a special holiday to remind us of the value of prayer. However, given the troubles Americans and America face in these times, a special day for this purpose seems appropriate. The minutes taken up with this meditative observance, whether at the public events or alone, will be time well-spent.
