I am a member of the Builders for Tomorrow Committee for Thomas W. Kelly High School. I would like to see the district update the school to stay with the times and to give our children an opportunity to excel. We need to pass a $4.9 million bond issue to build a new high school.

Opponents resist progress because of what has happened in the past. They need to forget about the gym and the way the administration at that time handled it. That issue is in the past, and there is nothing they or I can do about it.

I can tell the opponents one thing they have done that is positive for the district. They have brought such an awareness about mistrust that there is no way the present or future administrations will ever let that happen again.

Proponents of this bond issue are willing to sacrifice for positive progress. They are willing to help move students out of portable classrooms. They are willing to improve student safety. They are willing to help all students eat lunch at a more normal pace. There are willing to give teachers a chance to expand their curriculum. They are willing to pay 60 cent a day to help fund the bond issue (based on a home with an assessed value of $150,000).

Let's all do our part to be a Builder for Tomorrow.
