Another summer has flown by, and school is about to start again. This week Southeast Missouri State University students will be moving into their dorm rooms, their home away from home. Sure, it takes five minutes longer to get to work by 8 a.m., the drive-through lines are twice as long, and the mall seems to be a bit more crowded, but our kids are home.

Southeast students provide so much for the Cape Girardeau community. Retailers, restaurant owners, convenience stores and churches all realize the impact of our students' return.

There are many activities on the agenda for opening week at Southeast. The community is encouraged to welcome the students home and wish them the best during this school year. The Southeast Missourian is publishing a poster for businesses and residents to hang in windows showing students we are glad they are back and to make them feel welcome. Be kind to our students. Help them with directions, restaurant recommendations, places to hang out and area activities and events.
