To the editor:

I have become so concerned over the deterioration of parts of Cape Girardeau that I feel compelled to alert our community to the present deterioration of yet another area.

I have lived in Cape Girardeau all my adult life. I have watched the southern part of Cape Girardeau deteriorate with a heavy heart. Bellevue and Themis streets from Pacific Street east will be like Good Hope if the property owners do not keep it cleaned up and stop blocking the streets so you can't go through. You used to be able to walk your dog after dark and not worry or be fearful of being in the hospital the next morning after being robbed or assaulted. If you rent to one or two people, there will be 12 people living there after a few days.

It's up to the property owners and City Council to stop this endangerment to law-abiding citizens.
