To the editor: I is my understanding that whenever gambling comes in to a community, consumer spending goes down and credit delinquencies go up. This seems reasonable, because there is only so much money to be spent. Giving some of it to gambling means taking it away from somewhere else...

To the editor:

I is my understanding that whenever gambling comes in to a community, consumer spending goes down and credit delinquencies go up. This seems reasonable, because there is only so much money to be spent. Giving some of it to gambling means taking it away from somewhere else.

Yet the proponents of gambling tell us we will have so much more money if we have gambling. I have yet to understand how we are going to have more money in Missouri by shipping it to Las Vegas.

We have an opportunity to prune the greed of the casino crowd by voting no on Proposition 9. This we should do.
