Dear editor:

I would like to comment on an article that I read in Wednesday's paper on the P&G donation to the Cape and Jackson school districts. First of all, I think this is a wonderful thing for P&G to do for schools. However, I question why $500,000 could not have been spread around to include all Cape county schools.

I know that Cape and Jackson will find good use for this money, but where does this leave Oak Ridge and Delta? Cape Girardeau county is blessed with four fine public school districts, but one rarely hears about the two small schools (unless it's something negative) and here, again, we were left out of this donation from Procter and Gamble.

The article stated for 40 percent of P&G's workforce is from Jackson and that 22 percent is from Cape Girardeau. This adds up to 62 percent. Where does the other 38 percent of their work force come from?

Small schools fight for every dollar they receive and federal and state money is getting more and more difficult to obtain every year. Comparatively, small schools get by on very limited budgets, which means we can't pay teachers, furnish classrooms, provide supplies or offer the curriculums that larger schools can. A donation in any amount to a small school would be greatly appreciated.
