With a flood of letters regarding Amendment 7 (Hancock II) in the final days before the Nov. 7 election, here are excerpts from the latest batch:

To the editor:

...Amendment 7 simply permits all Missourians to vote on new state and local tax increases. If Amendment 7 passes will the sky fall? No. Don't let the politicians and bureaucrats fool you. It is time for the people to take their government back.

...What is a responsible voter to do given the wildly conflicting views on Amendment 7? The very uncertainty surrounding it counts as a good reason for voting no.

...They taxed us once without our approval, and they'll do it again. Our governor found a loophole in Hancock I and used it to slip Senate Bill 380 through without our vote. Now we must retain our right to vote and to close the loophole. Vote yes.

...A vote for Amendment 7 is a vote for chaos and court cases concerning its contitutionality. Vote no.

...The Hancock II amendment does not require that the state cut spending. It only requires that voters approve of the state's tax and spending. If you believe politicians should only be able to impose significant tax increases with the consent of voter, vote yes.
