Two St. Peters burglary suspects went a long way to get arrested.

Alexander County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men Thursday morning after they had eluded police in St. Peters, St. Louis and along the road through Cape Girardeau, said Alexander County Detective Bill McHughs.

Thieves had stolen jewelry, money, a television and a pickup truck from a residence in St. Peters on Wednesday, police reported. The value of the truck was estimated at $15,000, while other items were worth approximately $8,800, McHughs said.

The two men escaped police in the St. Louis area, and weren't spotted again until they crossed the Mississippi river bridge about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

They were pursued as they drove into Alexander County by sheriff's deputies. The suspects traveled down state Route 3 to Olive Branch, drove approximately three miles down a rural road and abandoned the stolen truck with all the items taken from the St. Peters' residence, the sheriff's department reported.

With the assistance of a K-9 unit from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, deputies located the two men within a few hours of each other Thursday morning. On Thursday evening, the men's names were being withheld pending criminal charges, McHughs said.
