CANS FILM FESTIVAL TO HELP SALVATION ARMY

Moviegoers can see "Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace" again and do a good deed for the Salvation Army through promotions sponsored by Wehrenberg Theatres this weekend."Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace" will begin a one-week run at Cape West Cine today. During the week, 100 percent of the ticket sales from the movie will be donated to the Salvation Army. There will be daily matinee showings of the film in addition to nighttime showings.

Lucasfilm donated the film for Wehrenberg's use and allowed the theater chain to choose the charity of its choice, according to Kelly Hoskins, the theaters' director of marketing."I'm really excited about it.""Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace" was first released in May.

In addition to "Star Wars," for the 14th year Wehrenberg is sponsoring a benefit called the Cans Film Festival. On Saturday only, the price of admission to the first two matinees of any film at Cape West Cine will be three cans of nonperishable food. The offer is good only for the first two matinees.

Anyone who brings in 10 or more cans of food also will receive a free movie pass good for a later admission. And the largest donation received among the 24 Wehrenberg theaters in Missouri, Illinois and Arizona will win a year-long pass to the movie theater.

Last year's largest donation was 210 cans, and the theaters collected 74,000 cans in 1998, Hoskins said.

The "Star Wars" showings will conclude on Thursday. The movie is being shown only at the nine Wehrenberg theaters in Cape Girardeau, Springfield and St. Louis.
