PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Joseph H. Blessing Jr., 92, of Perryville died Saturday, June 27, 2020, at his daughter's home in Perryville.

He was born July 15, 1927, in Perryville to Joseph H. and Mary Taylor Blessing Sr. He and Sylvia Mae Mattingly were married Sept. 1, 1956. She preceded him in death May 28, 2006.

Joseph was a retired business owner. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a third-degree member of Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Holy Name Society. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his sons, the Rev. Gerald Blessing of St. Paul, Missouri, Duane (Kathy) Blessing of Creve Coeur, Missouri, and Keith (Liezl) Blessing of Festus, Missouri; daughters, Gale (Frank) Merz of St. Louis, Denise Hanquist of Perryville, Janice (Mark) Lundy of Perryville, Michelle (Scott) Bradshaw of Cape Girardeau and Lisa (Timothy) Hughes of Arnold, Missouri; grandchildren, Veronica, Angelika, Nicole, Andrea, Valerie, Alexandra, Maria, Emma, Caroline, Taylor, Sophia, Lilly, Kelsey, Allyson, Nicholas, Jacob, Samuel, Benjamin, Nathan, Hannah and Chloe; stepgrandchildren, Jamie, Tom, Zach, Madeline and Olivia; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two infant sons; brothers, Hubert, Chalmer, Benedict, Conway, Donald, Leroy and Merlin Blessing; and sisters, Irene Krieger and Sister Janice Marie Blessing.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. July 15 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Blessing officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites provided by American Legion Post 133 and Delta Team, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Parish or Schools, Missouri Right to Life or for Masses.
