Ruby M. Stroder, 97, of Whitewater, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Whitewater, to Emery D. and Amelia Blumenberg Cook. She was a graduate of the former Maple Grove School in Whitewater and was a lifelong member of Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville. She and W. Glenn Stroder were married Nov. 24, 1956. Ruby M. Stroder, 97, of Whitewater, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Whitewater, to Emery D. and Amelia Blumenberg Cook. She was a graduate of the former Maple Grove School in Whitewater and was a lifelong member of Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville. She and W. Glenn Stroder were married Nov. 24, 1956. Three children were born to their union.

The Stroder family resided many years in Granite City, Illinois, where Glenn worked as an engineer/switchman for National Steel. Ruby enjoyed tending to her family. Her favorite tasks were cooking, baking, sewing and quilting. After Glenn's retirement, they returned to Whitewater and attended Bethlehem General Baptist Church. They had been married 45 years when he passed away Jan. 29, 2002. After Glenn's passing, Ruby enjoyed attending Whitewater Methodist Church with her daughter, Bonnie.

Loving survivors include children, Randy (Susan) Stroder of Troy, Illinois, Bonnie Stroder of Whitewater, Connie (Eric) Waltenberger of Edwardsville, Illinois; grandchildren, Jason (Chantelle) Stroder of Troy, Ashleigh Stroder of Collinsville, Illinois, Jessica (Richard) Jones of Collinsville, Nathan (Erin) Stroder of Whitewater and Wyatt Waltenberger of Maryville, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Braelyn Benefield and Jaxon and Greyson Stroder.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, Roy, Leslie and Edward Cook, Edna Wendel, Stella Willer and Emma Hartmann and an infant brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Kuehle officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Methodist Cemetery in Gordonville, where Ruby will be laid to rest beside Glenn.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Whitewater Methodist Church, Zion Methodist Church in Gordonville, or Crown Hospice.
