Edward G. "Bud" Spalding, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, at Lutheran Home.

Bud was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Cape Girardeau to the late Edward F. and Erna Sander Spalding.

He was baptized, confirmed and married at Trinity Lutheran Church.

He spent his early years working with his dad as a log hauler. During this period, he met and married the love of his life, Patricia "Peggy" Gosnell. His work took him to the former Lone Star Cement plant for 40-plus years.

Bud was honest, a hard worker and always willing to do his part. He and Peggy were married for 67 years and were known for their dancing. They would draw a crowd wherever they went. People loved to watch them, and they won various dance contests.

During their marriage, they had three children, Edward G. (Kathleen) Spalding Jr., Jean Ann (Jack) Trickey and Steven G. (Darlene) Spalding; grandchildren, Patricia Rea (Derek) Miller, Jack Trickey III, Marissa Spalding, Jared Spalding, Enola Spalding and Edward G. Spalding III; and six great-grandchildren. He loved his family and was very proud of their accomplishments.

He is also survived by sisters, Kay (Butch) Maevers and Phyllis (Gene) Maevers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia "Peggy" Spalding; sisters, Ruby Leach, Nora Lee Seabaugh and Shirley Estes Ates; and a baby sister, Carolyn Ruth.

Since Peggy's passing, Bud's only wish was to join her in heaven. He loved his church and took pride in reading his Bible. He read it through twice, an accomplishment some of us never fulfill. Rest in peace, Bud.

The family would like to thank Crown Hospice and Lutheran Home staff for the compassionate and outstanding care received.

Due to COVID-19, private family services and burial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church.
