Irene P. Murphy, 100, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, at Lutheran Home. She was born March 16, 1920, in Pittsburgh to Linval L. and Martha McIntyre Danner. She and Daniel J. Murphy were married Nov. 30, 1940, at Shrine of the True Cross in Dickinson, Texas. He preceded her in death April 29, 1989...

Irene P. Murphy, 100, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, at Lutheran Home.

She was born March 16, 1920, in Pittsburgh to Linval L. and Martha McIntyre Danner. She and Daniel J. Murphy were married Nov. 30, 1940, at Shrine of the True Cross in Dickinson, Texas. He preceded her in death April 29, 1989.

She was an accomplished seamstress and made many beautiful bridal and christening gowns and clothing items for family and friends. She worked at Cape Prosthetics-Orthotics and volunteered at Saint Francis Medical Center as a seamstress. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include daughters, Patricia (Lee) Cobb of Jackson, Sharon A. Murphy of St. Louis, Renee L. (Bob) Brown of Whitewater and Jean M. Strickland of Cape Girardeau; son, Daniel L. (Doris) Murphy of St. Louis County, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Theresa Murphy of Titusville, Florida; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 58 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Kathleen O'Connor and Mary Ellen Murphy; and son, Timothy L. Murphy.

Memorial Mass and life celebration will be held at a later date.

Her family is grateful for the loving care she received at Lutheran Home Assisted Living West.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
