SIKESTON, Mo. -- Melbert Donald Philipps, 84, of Sikeston and formerly of Jackson passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at Hunter Acres Care Center in Sikeston. He was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Jackson, son of Allois G. and Lulah M. Petzoldt Philipps. Melbert was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1954. Melbert worked alongside his father on the family farm raising livestock and planting crops...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Melbert Donald Philipps, 84, of Sikeston and formerly of Jackson passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at Hunter Acres Care Center in Sikeston.

He was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Jackson, son of Allois G. and Lulah M. Petzoldt Philipps.

Melbert was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1954. Melbert worked alongside his father on the family farm raising livestock and planting crops.

Loving survivors include a sister, ElO'Dean "Ellie" Knight of Scott City; sister-in-law, Janet Philipps of Jackson; three nieces, Valeria (Dan) Klaproth, Sandra (Mark) Barr and Carolyn Wood of Jackson; and a nephew, Steven Philipps of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Julius Philipps of Jackson; a twin sister, Melba Philipps; a brother-in-law, Robert Knight; and a nephew, John Keith Wood.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with the Rev. Joshua Schmidt officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
