Ruby Niswonger Matthews, 95, of Cape Girardeau departed this life peacefully at her daughter's home Friday, Feb. 5, 2021.

She was born to the late Charles Cronenbold and Ella May Walker. She married Walter J. Niswonger Jr., and he preceded her in death in 1995. She later married Charles Matthews.

Ruby loved spending time with her family. Family meant everything to her. Her favorite thing to do was shopping. She also loved her flower gardens; she loved the roses. Ruby was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Matthews; her three children, daughters, Marilyn Ernst and Rhonda (Ronald) Poe, and son, Alan Niswonger; stepson, Mark (Laura) Matthews; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Cronenbold, Rodney Poe, Steven Niswonger and Jenifer (Joey) Price; nine great-grandchildren, Kevin Cronenbold, Sarah Cronenbold, Tristan Cronenbold, Walker Cronenbold, Bailey Abbott, Nick Abbott, Matthew Niswonger, Anna Marie Niswonger and Braylynn Price; great-great-grandchild, Maddox Abbott; and nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter J. Niswonger Jr.; four brothers, Chester, Alanzo, Joe and Edward; three sisters, Lucille, Ferrell, and Frieda; granddaughter, Kelly Abbott; and grandson Ryan Poe.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Liley Cremation Services was in charge of the arrangements.
