Bill Gerhardt

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- William Haynes Gerhardt of Asheville passed away at age 59 on Friday, March 12, 2021, after a long illness.

Bill was born March 10, 1962, in Cape Girardeau.

He studied music with Herb Drury in St. Louis before attending the University of North Texas. He was a prolific composer and exceptional pianist, collaborating with musicians worldwide. Prior to living in Asheville, he lived and played jazz music in New York City; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Charlotte, North Carolina.

His death was preceded by his father, William Gerhardt, and mother, Jean Gerhardt.

He is survived by his sister, Terri Howell of New York City.

A May 15 tribute concert near Asheville is being planned.
