Donald Lloyd "Don" Starzinger, 87, of Jackson passed away Monday, March 29, 2021, at his home.

He was born June 22, 1933, on a farm near Oriole in Cape Girardeau County, son of Frederick Ernst and Alma Johanna Steinhoff Starzinger. He and Judith M. "Judy" Schrumpf were married July 13, 1957, at the United Methodist Church in Perryville, Missouri, by the Rev. O.D. Van Horn.

Don was baptized at home on Jan. 19, 1934. His sponsors were Fred Koeppel and Ida Huber. His confirmation was at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson on March 30, 1947.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army from June 1953 to May 1955. For 25 years, he was a member of Laborers Local 282 and then was employed by the City of Jackson as park foreman, until retirement in 1997.

Don was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, a life member of Disabled American Veterans in Cape Girardeau, the National Rifle Association, and a former member of Jackson Park Board and the Jackson City Council.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Judy Starzinger, loving survivors include his children, Terri (Ronald) Dobey of Rocheport, Missouri; Donna (Michael) Parnell of Jackson; Carole Starzinger of Decatur, Illinois; and Scott (Peggy) Starzinger of Jackson; grandchildren, Brandi Starzinger, Jordan (Jessica) Baker, Hayley Baker, Katherine (Wyatt) Williams, Courtney Baker, John Dobey, 2nd Lt. Colin Dobey, Shelby Starzinger, Jacob Starzinger and Luke Starzinger; and stepgrandchildren, Clayton Davis and Weston Sherrill.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a grandson, D.J. Baker.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
