Bob Stokes, son of the late Willie Stokes and Eleanor Bingley Stokes, was born Nov. 27, 1944, in Lilbourn, Missouri, and departed this life Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, at the age of 76 years.

Mr. Stokes was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former railroad maintenance-of-way foreman with Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Bob was affiliated with Perkins Baptist Church and a resident of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Oran, Missouri. He was also a volunteer fireman and first-responder in Oran.

On Feb. 6, 1965, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Hess in Oran. Mrs. Stokes survives of the home in Cape Girardeau.

Besides his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Valerie (Eric) Michelsen of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jo (Butch) Schlitt of Oran; one brother, John Wesley Stokes of Sahuarita, Arizona; four grandchildren, Erica (Matthew) Renes, Nathanael (Leah) Michelsen, Alex Schlitt and Erin (Gavin) Seyer; also by nine great-grandchildren, Jackson Renes, Hudson Renes, Eleanor Renes, Genevieve Renes, Graham Renes, Evelyn Michelsen, Elijah Michelsen, Othniel Michelsen and Madelyn Michelsen.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elbert Stokes.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic Rite service at 6:30 p.m., at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Perkins First Baptist Church, with Eric Michelsen and Nathan Michelsen officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Cemetery in Perkins, Missouri.
